Campus Facilities

Class rooms

The majority of classes at the XSON&AHS are carried out in contemporary lecture theatres that are equipped with comfortable seating and multimedia resources to allow interactive teaching. Teaching is divided between lecture theatres and laboratories where practical work takes place. The year group is split into sets and taught in smaller groups with a small student to teacher ratio, allowing students to address their individual problems with greater ease.

Tuck shop

The tuck shop is situated in the Cafeteria building. It sufficiently fulfills the needs of students. It offers a range of snacks and stationery and other items of daily use.

IT lab

The IT lab is available for use by the students of XSON&AHS and is open for use during the day as well as for out of work hours. There is also large IT area with around 50 computers present in the library for those who wish to access resources to supplement their knowledge.

Hostel

Hostel spaces are available for those students at the college who require accommodation. The rooms available can be both single and joint with en-suite bathrooms, depending on request and availability. The female hostel is located next to campus building and the male hostel is located in front of the college. Residents of the hostels are provided full access to the campus and are able to visit the library, sports ground and the cafeteria when desired.

Student affair

The student affairs department is managed by Manager Student Affairs, are responsible for dealing with all affairs concerning students and the friendly and caring staff employs a supportive system for any problems faced by students.

The management offices at student affairs also hold the responsibility of dealing with admission procedures such as publishing dates of entrance tests, interviews and admissions as well as announcement of results and maintaining their records for internal assessment. They also maintain student records for KMU registration and conduct internal college exams in collaboration with KMU Matters pertaining to student discipline and abidance of college rules are under governance of Administration XSON&AHS. This office in turn holds liaison with parents of the students.

The student affairs office is involved with the college related life of the student right from the start. The office functions as the main guide of students throughout their college life and even following graduation. In short, the Student Affairs Office is the body that a student approaches for all matters concerning life on campus.

Student societies

Through the presence of various societies, college aids the development of its students on a more personal level and allows them to pursue their interests aside from academics. The current active societies of the college are:

Laboratories

There are separate laboratories present on every floor in the main college block which are specialized for each department. This includes a skill lab for Medical Laboratory Technology, Anesthesia Technology and Surgical Technology. Each laboratory is facilitated with state of the art technology to accompany teaching provided by well-trained faculty and Lab assistants. Each student is provided with their own individual laboratory instruments. These well-equipped laboratories are also available for use by students who wish to carry out extra study.

Activities

The campus has focused its activities on becoming a center of excellence in medical education, professional and personal development encompassing holistic medicine rather than traditional system. The noteworthy activities in this regard include:

Continuous, incremental, individual research capacity building program that has won noteworthy recognition in national conferences and national research societies.

Clinical Skill development program through the Clinical Skills Center has attracted large number of visiting dignitaries and appreciation in international medical educational forums; it has become a focus of research assignments for Postgraduates.

High altitude educational / adventure trips on yearly basis that generate medical and co- curricular data as a source of publication.

Holding of and participating in the WHO health related days with positive impact on public awareness.

Participation in co-curricular activities arranged by different leading national universities and institutions.

Regular literary and sports activities leading to personal development.

Academic and curriculum
The curriculum at college is based on an integrated design, as proposed by KMU. Integration at horizontal levels assures that the thirst for higher order of knowledge is quenched, while vertical integration ensures clinical application of knowledge at a time when that knowledge is still fresh in the mind of the student. The mode of teaching is student-centered, with maximum utilization of resources by students in self-learning, keeping the role of teachers as facilitators. In this manner, a problem solving mindset is gradually built up, which will sustain the student in good stead throughout his/her professional life.

Sport facilities

A healthy mind and body go together to build a healthy life. The physical rigors of the medical profession are not neglected at college. A variety of sports and physical enhancement activities are available round-the-clock for the students, allowing them to use these facilities during short breaks or for longer stretches. The indoor sports complex provides equipment and courts for a number of sports including table tennis, ludo and badminton with arrangements made at external fields for sports such as cricket and football. A full-fledged state-of-the-art Gymnasium on the fourth floor of the Hostel building is also available for the students.

The college sports community thrives through the different sport events and intercollegiate competitions taking place between different colleges.
